Read Nick Thorpe

I've been reading Nick Thorpe's couple of books this last week or so. I first saw an excerpt of Nick's book in Third Way magazine(http://www.thirdway.org.uk), and it was great. Then radio 4 had it as their book of the week. Then it was on the shelf everywhere. Adrift in Caledonia is a great read, as is Eight Men and a Duck.

Nick blends good travel writing with humor, and a quest to refresh his sprit. I'd recommend them as a read

“Adrift in Caledonia: Boat-hitching for the Unenlightened” (Nick Thorpe)

“Eight Men and a Duck: An Improbable Voyage by Reed Boat to Easter Island” (Nick Thorpe)

Drops of Water

An image has kept popping into my head over the past few weeks, and I'd like to share it here.

Imagine, if you will a bowl of clear water, and imagine a drop of food colouring being dropped into it, just a drop.

See it fall? See the ripples as the drop hits the water? See the colour boil away into the water, spreading like smoke?

Its only a small drop and once the disturbance has stopped, what has changed? The water may be slightly less clear, but can you see the difference? Its only a small, tiny, drop of food dye, it just vanishes into the water.

Leave it a week and can you even see the difference now?

Let's repeat several times, each time just dropping in a small drop of dye. Each time the change is small, but eventually the water is no longer clear. Things have changed.

That's what I have allowed to happen in my life, small changes that over time have changed me, how I am, and what I am.

Now, imagine pouring in some bleach into the bowl, imagine the bleach reaching through the murk, changing things, restoring things to clarity.

That's what I want in my life......

Let the journey begin.
